I’ve heard so many people talk about how what they’re experiencing is just “insignificant”… that there are “worse” things going on in the world. Yes, it’s true that there are people experiencing significant trauma’s in the world. It’s ALSO true that your experience is real and valid. What you are experiencing is not invalidated because other people are also experiencing some rough times. This isn’t a “trauma competition”… all of our experiences matter.

Seriously... you want me to practice mindfulness..?

I know… mindfulness is pretty popular and everyone is encouraged to practice this weird thing. It will solve all of your problems, can eliminate cavities, will ensure that you will never feel sad again! Not exactly, but many people have found it helpful to bring awareness to what’s going on. It can help us to pause and think and think for a minute… maybe give us time to think about our actions before reacting (I know… novel idea). It can allow us to be more thoughtful in how we interact with the world and do our best to have our actions align with our values. Ultimately, we can’t control our feelings, but we CAN control our actions, yeah? Don’t worry… we’ll also get to the chocolate in the picture… but ya gotta read to see how.
